My illustrations are done in cut-paper collage. I use all kinds of paper. Kiri's quilt is made from the borders of a Japanese calendar, the turtles sit on a grocery bag log, and Anna's skirt is recycled wrapping paper. Some of the illustrations also have scraps of cloth, leaf prints, and paint. When I write, I think about collage, too — cutting and pasting the best words I can find.
